Why write a blog?

They say you can not teach an old dog new tricks but I am currently disproving that saying, not that I am calling myself an old dog or even old for that fact however the last few days have been so much fun for me in creating this. I came into this project with absolutely no knowledge at all and have spent hours upon hours watching ‘creating websites for beginners’ videos and following along with their instructions.

In preparation for our lifestyle change around June 2016 I started reading blogs written by people who were already doing what we were looking to do so I could get a realistic view of what life on the water would be. Not only did reading these blogs get me excited, somewhere along the way they also inspired me and I made the decision that once we started our new life I would create a website and post blogs about our adventures.

I would like to thank you for stopping by and reading my very first blog.  I look forward to writing many more stories about how we bought our boat, learned to sail her, chose where we sailed to first, the people we encounter along the ways, the many exotic places we stop at, how we cope as a couple spending days and nights together in such a confined space, how Hunny handles being on the water plus many other wondrous stories that are in our future.

Who exactly is going to read this? To be honest if I was to guess I would say maybe 10 friends at most will be regular visitors to this website to read the blogs, however what a fantastic way to record stories of our travels so when we are older we can sit wherever it is where we end up and look back on these posts and remind ourselves of that time when we just went for our dreams and lived an adventurous crazy life.

So lets baton down the hatches, pull up the gangplank and get this adventurous life underway!

  5. Hey Aron and Craig

This morning I went to the Graham Condon gym for a workout. I tend to join it for the Chch winter months to keep active fitness wise; have been doing it for a couple of years. Perhaps, what is more significant are the conversations struck up with other fellow beings doing the same. Today was even more so.

I caught up with a gym instructor there Sally. We conversed about all sorts of stuff; especially simplifying life to chase what is more important. Which is generally experiences versus materialistic stuff for us. Then your name Aron got mentioned. Funny thing is, when she mentioned your name, I happened to guess it was you! Anyway, we haven’t followed you on FB however, Sally mentioned the adventure you both embarked on.

Flicking you a message to say how inspiring the chat was with Sally and now, here I am. Checking out your story. Just brilliant and encouraging – finding like minded people do what you have done has been challenging.

We get it. We lived in Dubai for a couple of years to return to NZ and live in a tent then a caravan. Although we have property now, it’s an over 60’s unit so as to keep minimal and save to keep adventure travelling. So, I am very much going to enjoy your blog for which I add, well done you. And, well done to you both to be off doing what you guys have done.

I became a celebrant this last year and have officiated nigh on 60 funeral services since. You both are writing the legacy that gets spoken about during a eulogy. As soul mates too.

Anyway, just wanted to say how motivating it was to have Sally mention you during a conversation. Even though people may not leave a message or hit the thumbs up like button; you are getting talked about because of who you both have become. And out there doing it. That is significance at it’s best.
